Shrink Hemorrhoids
One of the main goals in treating hemorrhoids is to shrink the swollen vein. By doing so, most hemorrhoid symptoms such as pain, burning sensation, and bleeding will be reduced. Shrinking hemorrhoids can be done through a number of ways.
First of all, a sitz bath is the simplest and cheapest way to shrink hemorrhoids. This process involves soaking the rectum in moderately hot and shallow water for fifteen to twenty minutes three to four times a day. This improves blood circulation in the affected area and prevents further inflammation which causes the hemorrhoid to increase in size. Second, topical medications can also be used to shrink the hemorrhoid to its normal size. These products are directly applied against the swollen vein and contain ingredients that react with the chemical composition of the hemorrhoid to make it smaller. Furthermore, topical solutions can come in the form of creams and ointments that must be spread sparingly on the hemorrhoid once or twice daily.
In addition to the above-mentioned techniques, there are other procedures used in shrinking hemorrhoids. These are done by a doctor and may usually require a more advanced set of equipment. An example of such procedures is Hemorrhoidolysis. This makes use of therapeutic galvanic waves that are applied directly to the hemorrhoid, which in turn produce a chemical reaction that shrinks and liquefies hemorrhoidal tissue. Hemorrhoidolysis is most effective in curing internal hemorrhoids. Another form of treatment is done through injection. In this process, medicine is injected into the mucus membrane near the swollen vein to shrink the hemorrhoid and its blood vessels. Injection is a method that is reserved for small hemorrhoids.
